Approachable by I-80 from the East, this highway parallels US50 to Sacramento, this interstate leads into the city over the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. Lying just East of San Francisco lies I-5, running north-south, connects San Francisco to the Oakland Bay Bridge via I-505 and I-80 from the north, and I-580, I-880, and I-980 from the south. Passing directly through San Francisco are the scenic US101 and SR1 routes which merge together before crossing the Golden Gate Bridge and continuing on to Marin County.
Air Travel -- Served by three major airports: Oakland International Airport - About
10 south of downtown Oakland, located off of I-80. A popular choice for
travelers visiting the East side of San Francisco. Norman Y Mineta San Jose International
Airport - Located about 3 miles northwest of downtown San Jose. Public Transportation --
Consisting of cable cars, trolley buses, streetcars and buses, the San
Francisco Municipal Railway (Muni) provides public transportation
throughout the city and to popular tourist spots and visitor locations.
The mass transit system runs 24 hours a day. Adult fares are currently
$1.50 (as of Sept 1, 2005).
