When most people think of Orlando the first thing that comes to mind in
Disney World. However, there is much more to Orlando than just theme
parks. Although sparsely settled before and during the civil war, Orlando saw a growth surge in the late 1800's when it became the hub of Florida's citrus industry. However, due to freezing, the bulk of this industry eventually shifted south. Orlando later became known as a popular inland tourist resort, just as it is today, primarily due to its many lakes. "The City Beautiful", the city's nickname, is also home to major corporations known around the world. Aside from The Walt Disney Company, companies like IBM, Lockheed-Martin, Oracle Corporation, EA Games, and Tupperware call Orlando their home. Orlando is a vibrant, beautiful city with lots to do as well as lots of culture and character. |
