Martha’s Vineyard residents mostly hit the beaches or the ocean when they come to visit. There are lots of beaches to choose from. You can rent a boat, Jet Ski, arrange to parasail, or a host of other water activities. Biking is very popular on the island, and there are numerous bike rental companies to outfit you as well. Golf is another popular pastime as well. If you get tired of all of the activity you might want to visit one of these attractions: Flying Horses Carousel—This carousel was brought to Martha’s Vineyard in 1884. It is currently the oldest operating carousel in the United States. In addition to riding the carousel, you can play video games or enjoy a snack here.

Horses Carousel Gay Head Lighthouse—What would a visit be to an island, without a trip to the lighthouse? Martha’s Vineyard has 5 lighthouses in all. This lighthouse offers sunset tours (given by the lighthouse keeper himself) on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings.

Head Lighthouse Martha’s Vineyard Museum—This museum is the largest on the island and is dedicated to preserving and researching the history of the island. There are several permanent exhibits including Cook House and Pease House. Cooke House was built in 1740 and is still in its original form (no modernization today). Pease House showcases the Wampanoag Tribe, the islands first inhabitants. The museum is really proud of its exhibit: Vineyard Voices which gives an oral history of the islands by residents.

Vineyard Museum Myoti Garden: This Japanese-style garden in the middle of the pine forest on Chappaquiddick Island is a delightful side tour. Its free and a treat for those who just want a little peace and quiet.
Myoti Garden Polly Hill Arboretum—If you really like plants, and the Myoti Garden isn’t big enough for you, this delightful arboretum might just do the trick. It’s over 40 acres are dedicated to the cultivation and study of plants on the island. Its specialties are: North Tisbury azaleas, witch hazel, magnolias, rhododendrons and stewartias.
