Las Vegas has grown from a settlers stop-over in the late 1800s to a sprawling city teeming with glitz, glamour and lights. Incorporated in 1911, Las Vegas didn’t really take off until the 1930s. This was due in large part to the increase of jobs caused by the construction of Hoover Dam. Gambling was also legalized in 1931 which no doubt provided an additional lure for workers to come to the area. Las Vegas has been striving to change its image from strictly one of “Sin City” and “What Happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas”, to one of a family friendly tourist destination. Many hotels have catered whole attractions geared to attract to families, but the fact remains that gambling pays. If you don’t like to gamble or go to shows, there are lots of outdoor activities, museums and music venues as well. The hotels in Las Vegas are incredible and tourist destinations in themselves. They have headliner shows, amusement parks, theaters, animal exhibits, casinos and more. Old hotels are continually being razed to build newer and more extravagant ones. If you haven’t been to the “Strip” you need to go…at least once in your life. |
