Located approximately 90 miles north of Cuba, this island retreat has long
been a recreation favorite for vacationers of all backgrounds. It has long
been a draw for writers, songwriters, and artists as well as important
political figures such as Eisenhower, Truman, and John F. Kennedy.
The Florida Keys, and Key West in particular, were favorite ports and hangouts for pirates and smugglers. However, when Henry Flagler built the railroad connecting the islands to the mainland, they quickly became beloved by all who traveled there. Key West is currently a popular destination for tourist making their way south by car via U.S. 1, flying into the Key West International Airport, or arriving by boats and cruise ships by the thousands. While visiting this southernmost destination in the U.S., be sure to bring along a casual attitude. Pull up a chair on the beach, enjoy some hometown Key Lime pie, and applaud the sunset at the end of every spectacular day. |
