Hilton Head Island, SC |
||||
|
Hilton Head Island is the 2nd largest barrier island in the United States. It is 12 miles long and 5 miles wide. The island has 39,000 residents year round, but this number swells to 300,000 in the summertime. The residents of the island do their best to make sure the island stays environmentally sound though. There are numerous restrictions on the plant life (trees are extremely protected), and everything from the beaches to the salt marshes are evaluated regularly. This not only helps the environment flourish, but provides for an aesthetically pleasing sight. |
