Walt Disney World
Animal Kingdom

This is Disney's version of a zoo that isn't quite a zoo.

Typical of other Disney parks, sections are divided around a separate 'hub' into unique and distinct lands. Most lands feature different animal exhibits, shows, rides, and educational opportunities along with knowledgeable staff members, many of which are native to the lands they represent.

Here is a short synopsis of the different lands and what they offer:

The Oasis - The entryway that you must walk through in order to access the rest of the park. Designed to look like a jungle, this area offers many animal exhibits and viewing areas as well as lush vegetations and scenic pathways.

Discovery Island - The central area of the park, or hub, that showcases Animal Kingdom's icon, the Tree of Life. This 145 ft tall, 50 ft wide, man-made tree hosts the It's Tough to be a Bug attraction and has over 325 hand-carved animal images in its trunk and branches.

Camp Minnie-Mickey - Featuring two great shows: Festival of the Lion King and Pocahontas and Her Forest Friends, this Adirondack Summer Camp style land is also a popular place to meet and greet Disney characters.

Africa - Home to one of Animal Kingdom's most popular exhibits, Kilimanjaro Safari, which takes you on a ride through an African safari, over collapsing bridges, and through overflowing rivers to view free-roaming wildlife and to save Little Red from the elephant poachers.

Rafiki's Planet Watch - Entered through the rear of Africa via a train that takes you to and from this Conservation Station, Rafiki's Planet Watch offers many environmental and animal educational opportunities and interaction.

Asia - The fictional village of Anandapur was created by combining several different cultures, architectural styles, and influences from throughout Asia, including India, Thailand, and Indonesia. This land features the popular cooling off spot and shower alternative: Kali River Rapids and the soon-to-open Expedition Everest in Spring, 2006.

DinoLand U.S.A. - Designed to look and feel like a traveling fair or carnival, this dinosaur-inspired land is a big hit with children. It features more rides than any other land in the park: The Boneyard, a playground where kids can dig up fossils, climb and slide, and dump sand on their little sisters head, Primeval Whirl, a small roller coaster with some mild drops but wild spinning action, and TriceraTop Spin, a Dumbo-like ride where children can go around and up and down.

DinoLand also features the popular show, Tarzan Rocks, and several carnival-style games of skill and chance called Fossil Fun Games.
