When you think of Denver, you think of the “Mile High City”. With an elevation of 5,280ft, this name is honestly earned. Nestled in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, this city has emerged from a bustling gold rush boom town in the mid 1880s to the sophisticated metropolis it is today. Founded in 1858 many prospectors arrived to find less than ideal working conditions. Gold was not nearly as plentiful as many were led to believe. Those who stuck it out though were richly rewarded as the real money to be found was in the sale of goods, not in gold. This holds true today. Denver is widely known for its manufacture and distribution of a wide variety of goods. Like many other boom towns in the west, Denver went through its share of fires and floods. However, it kept rebuilding bigger and better than before. With over 300 days of sunshine a year, this city caters to the outdoors sports enthusiasts (with 8 professional sports teams), yet is home to many cultural venues as well. There is truly “something for everyone” in Denver. |
