Biking—There are 12 miles of paved bike trails, or you can ride on the regular roads. You cannot mountain bike, motorized bikes or go off-trail. Fishing—You can fish, however if you are over 16 you need a valid California Fishing License. There are many regulations as to when, where and what you are able to catch, so check with rangers when you arrive. Hiking—There are over 750 miles of trails. You can find out all of the details for the terrain and distance for each trail on the Park’s website. Horseback Riding—There are several places and tours you can rent horses or mules within the park. You can bring your own horses, but there are lots of rules regarding this so be sure to check ahead. Rafting—You can rent or kayak in the Merced River most of the time, but you need to check ahead for river conditions to verify if you will be able to when you plan to go. You can also rent rafts if you don’t own one. Rock Climbing—Rock climbing is extremely popular. The granite formations make it the perfect environment for climbers. Please check ahead to see if the area you are planning to climb hasn’t been closed though. Skiing—You can go skiing or snowshoeing at Badger Pass, and they have rentals available as well. Cross-country skiing is very popular, and there are several marked trails. Swimming—Swimming is allowed everywhere but Hetch Hetchy Reservoir and above waterfalls (for obvious reasons). There are also several public pools you can swim in as well. Tours—There are many tours offered. You can take a two-hour tour of the Valley, or one of the many bus tours that go to Glacier Point, Wawona & Mariposa Grove, and Tuolumne Meadows and the Valley.
